This Halloween I am partying at YOUR house! I would love to see the look of peoples' faces to see someone wandering down the streets of Shreveport in a get-up like that.

Better idea, if "Juno" or "Michael Clayton" win over "NCFOM" maybe you should riot in the streets dragging around your tank while wearing the wig. That would be a front page photo for The Times. (I'd even frame it for ya!)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34411274.post-43699784536141132122008-02-21T13:05:00.000-06:002008-02-21T13:05:00.000-06:00If "Juno" beats this film for Best Picture, I will...If "Juno" beats this film for Best Picture, I will riot in the streets - or at least go outside and kick over a trashcan or two.

I think we should take a moment out to acknowledge one of the behind-the-scenes players whose work won't be recognized on Sunday night: Geordie Sheffer, Key hairstylist for "No Country."

Dandy fop? Pageboy? King Arthur? 1970's disco dude? Who knows what Mr. Sheffer was going for when he crafted The Haircut, but it was one of those rare moments of beautiful, brilliant inspiration.

This Halloween expect to see me denim'd out wearing a King Arthur wig and carrying around a pneumatic tank!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34411274.post-13589169481553384932008-02-21T10:09:00.000-06:002008-02-21T10:09:00.000-06:00I absloutely loved this movie! I was rapt from th...I absloutely loved this movie! I was rapt from the opening shot til the credits rolled and other movie goers were shouting obscenities at the screen. I literally sat on the edge of my seat the whole film.

This is by far the best Coen Brothers film. Their first adaptation and they hit it outta the park. Not that they don't create consistently amazing films, just this one really left me enthralled.

I was probably one of the only people who didn't feel cold when I walked out of the movie theater. And its because I had done something that hadn't happened since film school. I had achieved a true cinematic experience.

What I mean by that, is most of the time, when people walk out of a film, they can either say, "I liked it" or "I didn't like it." On the short ride home to my apartment, this movie sparked much discussion. I had a heated debate about the filmmakers choices, the ending, the comedy, the tension, the beauty, the editing...the picture as a whole.

I had experienced greatness. And let's face it, not a lot of movies leave you with that feeling anymore. Most of American cinema in years past has been reduced to killing one and a half hours by eating popcorn and being mildly entertained by the pictures on the screen.

This was different. As true cinema is supposed to be.

Completely brilliant.

I am NCFOM's friend-o. For sure.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34411274.post-63515063376929742762008-02-21T09:18:00.000-06:002008-02-21T09:18:00.000-06:00It's about time we got to discuss THE Best Picture...It's about time we got to discuss THE Best Picture of 2007. "No Country For Old Men" is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best. In fact, I bet "NCFOM" will be drinking a few milkshakes come Sunday night.

The film is what a "best picture" should be. Gripping? Check. Honest? Check. Original? Check. Beautiful? Check. Acting? Check. Directing? Check. Music? Check. Writing? Check. Editing? Check. Awesome? Check.

Would I watch it again and love it as much as the first time I saw it? Check.

Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Tommy Lee Jones were perfect in their roles. And the Coen brothers, well, what negative can anyone say? Nothing really. They have concocted as perfect a film as we have seen in recent years.

Is it better than the other Coen flicks? Yeah. And that says a lot. "Fargo" was brilliant, so to top it is amazing. And what about that "cold" feeling? That feeling, my friend, was the reaction everyone likely had. But, like you, that feeling wears off and a need, a true desire, to experience "NCFOM" again takes its place. That is special... Too bad movie-goers are not treated to such films as often as we deserve.

So, it is "No Country For Old Men" for me. And, come Oscar night, for the Academy as well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
