Caddo Parish now offers rebate

The Caddo Parish Commission approved a film incentive on Thursday. Read the story here. That means that if you film in The Shreve:
  • Caddo Parish offers: $20,000 sales tax rebate for first production; $22,000 for follow-up productions. Minimum budget is $75,000.
  • The City of Shreveport offers: $150,000 to $175,000 sales tax rebate per project. Mininum budget is $300,000.
  • The state offers a 25% production tax credit on in-state expenses, plus a 10% bump for in-state labor costs. The state leg is currently considering legislation to increase it or extend it.

I think this is exceptional news. If everything goes according to plan, why would Hollywood NOT make the Shreveport area a permanent home? I mean, they'll be getting breaks and incentives from every direction.

Hollywood is a business and the bottom line
is what the film industry is all about.
Shreveport and Louisiana can kiss the film
industry goodbye unless it gets ahead of or
at least even to the tax incentives in Georgia,
Michigan......
I know, I worked on three shows in Shreveport last year and this year nothing.
In January I did two dept. budgets for Shreveport,
one show went to Georgia and one to Vancouver.
It is up to you if you want a green industry
with unlimited growth potential that employed over
3,000 people last year that pumps millions instantly into the state economy or you
can move to the states that have the jobs.
Today is the day to email or call your state representatives and the Governor to level the
playing field. 30 % incentives No Sunsets.
IT IS UP TO YOU......

Wake up guys. It can't happen with the present administration. The main thing Shreveport needs is a direct flight to Los Angeles, and the city officials won't make an effort to secure it. Its much easier and quicker to film in a location that provides the convenience of a direct flight to L.A. (Los Angeles). The local city "leaders" haven't figured this out yet, but they have been told thousands of times what is needed...
and they still haven't figured out the difference between Los Angeles and LA.
As one city official remarked
"we need a flight to what city in L.A.?"

Now, just rent a plane with an advertising banner to fly over L.A. with all that information attached.

No matter how much money the city or parish throws at runaway productions, the choice is still theirs to make. And I can tell you for certainty that the Shreve is not a go to destination for H'wood. It's not even on the priority list for them. What the city and parish need to do is TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN. Hear tell the kids in Shreve have only one pool to swim in and going there, one can run the risk of electrical shock! It's a matter of simple logic. Take care of those in your own community, before you attempt to take care of someone else, outside your community. Besides, the truth is is that it is back to business as usual, pre-Katrina. And why throw money at people who don't desire to come here?
