Mayor Glover says Josh Brolin 'blurring' reality

I just received an e-mail response from Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover regarding Brolin's arrest story, which was published on Hollywood Elsewhere.

Here's Mayor Glover's email response, in full:

"There is an interesting presumption of privilege in Mr. Brolin’s comments. He appears to be blurring the line between reality and his on screen persona. As Southerners we inherently go out of our way to make our guests and visitors feel welcome and at home. However, the expectation that legitimate charges would be summarily dismissed by me, the Chief of Police or the City Attorney is not in line with the way this administration is leading the city of Shreveport. At every level, from City Hall, to our faith community, to our neighborhoods, we are working diligently to make all of Shreveport safer and better. Crucial to that effort is the equal and consistent application of the law.

"But make no mistake, we treasure and value all that the film industry has brought to our community. We will continue to pursue every opportunity available to bring this industry to our region. And we will continue to make all those who come feel wanted, appreciated and welcomed."

Cedric B. Glover
Mayor of Shreveport

I've been reading Hollywood Elsewhere for several years now, and it's pretty interesting to see Shreveport causing a bit of a stir on the site. Wells comes up with some nice reporting from time to time, but he's mostly a childish jackass with his commentaries and replies.

Keep rocking, Mr. Kent!

Josh Brolin is speaking the truth.
I have personally seen Shreveport police officers bullying, beating, and harassing "suspects" before they have their day in court. I know police abuse of power is a problem with the Shreveport police department, but unfortunately we have a mayor and police chief who are in denial. The best way to stop this problem is to sue the city of Shreveport and force Cedric Glover and Henry Whitehorn out of office. They have been part of the problem in Shreveport and not part of the solution. Force Cedric Glover into court and hold him and Chief Whitehorn accountable for their cover up of police brutality. They both give Shreveport a bad name. The mayor and police chief wouldn't think of harassing the drug dealer thugs at the nearby violent black clubs the way they treated actors Josh Brolin and Jeff Wright. This is WRONG! Mayor Glover has a history of distorting the truth. Remember when he stole police funds to buy himself a SUV? Remember when chief Henry Whitehorn covered up for the police when a lady was arrested for DWI and had her face smashed when the camera was turned off?
The taxpayers are paying out huge settlements due to Cedric Glover and Henry Whitehorn's dishonesty!

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH JOSH BROLIN.
MAYOR GLOVER AND HIS FRIEND CHIEF WHITEHORN HAVE DAMAGED SHREVEPORT BEYOND REPAIR. WHY CAN'T THE SHREVEPORT POLICE FIGHT CRIME IN THIS CITY AS AGGRESSIVELY AS THEY PURSUE THIS SILLY NONSENSE? THEY WILL RUN OFF THE FILM INDUSTRY AND GIVE SHREVEPORT A BAD NAME, BUT THEY WON'T RUN OFF THE DRUG DEALERS AND VIOLENT CRIMINALS. HOW MUCH LONGER DO WE AS CITIZENS HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS JOKE OF A MAYOR CEDRIC GLOVER AND CHIEF HENRY WHITEHORN? MOST OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WANTS TO GET A NEW CHIEF TO CLEAN THINGS UP, BUT GLOVER HAS TO PROTECT HIS BUDDY HENRY WHITEHORN'S JOB. COULD THIS BE A CASE OF BLACK RACISM?

You see, I think that Mayor Glover is telling the truth. I think that if Brolin and Wright were causing a fight, continually resisted arrest, and obstructing justice that the police acted properly. The problem is, there seems to be more and more evidence that there wasn't any of that going on.

If mayor Glover was telling the truth, he would release the video and prove he is right. As it stands, he is doing great harm to shreveport by withholding the video and sending the message to Hollywood that he covers up for police brutality. How many movies do you think want to come here now that they see our mayor and police chief are hiding the truth and not being open and honest. The film industry has pushed hundreds of millions of dollars through the local economy, and Cedric Glover is doing everything he can to kill the movie industry here. Is this how he welcomes the film industry, who can film anywhere in the world? He can talk the talk, but won't walk the walk.
I guarantee the film industry will pull out and leave hundreds of locals unemployed. Why can't Cedric Glover and Henry Whitehorn tell the truth about anything? Its always half truths. We do have a corrupt police department. If we are going to clean up Shreveport, we have to start at the top with a new mayor and police chief. Maybe a few lawsuits will get us headed in the right direction. This incident will cost the taxpayers dearly both financially and with unemployed locals. Your taxes will soon be going up to pay for the lawsuits. Remember this during the next election. And why is our City Council letting our movie industry leave? We need to clean house at city hall!!!
