'Without a Santa' is a ratings stinker

Ratings for the Monday night broadcast of "The Year Without a Santa Claus" were disappointing, to put it mildly.

"Deal or No Deal" took in a solid 10.0 rating and a 15 share during the 7 o'clock slot, but the game show's (bizarrely successful) draw didn't help the Jolly One.

More than half the audience ditched NBC when "Without a Santa" took over from 8 to 10 p.m. It earned a piddly 4.7 rating and 7 share.

Ho ho no.

The TV movie was shot in Natchitoches and Shreveport.

Anybody want to share their two cents about why "Without a Santa" missed?

Probably because it was HORRIBLE!!! I was in awe at how bad it was.

I think it's the liberals' War on Christmas.

I think John Goodman and Delta Burke were totally wrong as Santa and Mrs. Claus. John Goodman seemed mad and pissed off the entire movie. Not how one would imagine Santa behaving. Of course, his attitude may have had something to do with wearing a Santa costume in JULY! In Louisiana!! Or maybe the writers just wanted to make Santa look like a grumpy old fat man?

Anyway, I won't be watching it again next year.

The writing was dumb. I can't believe that fat dude from animal control actually lifted his shirt and showed his tattooed belly. The set was cheap looking. It looked like a home movie.

The worst part is that Chris Kataan, Eddie Griffin, and Ethan Suplee were completely miscast. The three are all funny in their own right, but not as characters in kids movies. It was like trying to attract viewers for teletubbies by featuring Dave Chapelle. His funny stuff is adult oriented.

I think the major flaw was the script. It was a children's story and it tried to hard to put in adult coolness and content. The drinking of alcohol in a couple of places disturbed me.

It may have also suffered from bad editing. The movie was half over before one of the elves said something about the heat... oh so it was supposed to be hot..

It had possibilities.

That said it did make me tear up at the end.
