The Lifetime TV project “Queen Sized” will begin shooting in Shreveport on or near Oct. 26. The lead actress is Nikki Blonsky, who starred alongside John Travolta in the hit summer movie “Hairspray.”
Producers Chris Morgan and Judy Cairo are behind the project.
“It’s about an overweight girl who, for a joke, is elected Homecoming queen by the mean girls in the high school,” Morgan said. “She takes it seriously, and she doesn’t see the joke.”
Blonsky’s characters will learn life lessons from the prank.
“Queen Sized” should wrap a couple days before Thanksgiving, Morgan said.
Morgan and Cairo have extensive production experience in New Orleans and south Louisiana. This will be Morgan’s first time producing in Shreveport, and he noted that the high cost of insurance premiums for shooting in New Orleans was a factor in their decision.
“Queen Sized” will be based out of Mansfield Studios. The one million square-foot production facility is run by Louisiana Production Consultants. Already this fall, the facility is hosting four horror movie sequels backed by The Weinstein Company, "Untitled Manbreak Project" starring Nick Cannon, and an independent feature film “Wonderful World” starring Matthew Broderick.
“It’s wonderful,” Morgan said about Mansfield Studios. “I’ve never been in building with a million square feet before.”
Lampton Enochs of Louisiana Production Consultants said Mansfield Studios is busy just like the rest of the state. "There is a lot of business going on all over the place," he said. "We have a pretty good reputation right now. Shreveport has had a successful run, and people are just interested in coming in here."
