'The Last Lullaby' to open May in The Shreve; Email Jeffrey Goodman to join the push

Local director Jeffrey Goodman plans to push "The Last Lullaby" into theaters in May. The movie was shot here in early 2007 and debuted at the AFI Dallas Int'l Film Festival in March 2008. After a year on the festival circuit, Jeffrey plans to personally tour the film from city to city.

Shreveport and Bossier City are the first stops on his itinerary.

"You, as a citizen of our region, will have the rare opportunity to affect whether this film gets out to the rest of the world," Jeffrey wrote in an email. "If a large number of people in the region come out in support of the film, it has a great chance of being shown on screens in the rest of the world."

Why the DIY approach? Many reasons, but three stand out for me:
  • The filmmaker has more control.
  • He can generate a higher per-screen average and attract attention from a distributor.
  • With Goodman in tow, each city's opening should garner more attention (generate more buzz).
I reviewed this film last year, and it's a stunningly well made crime drama. Because I believe deeply in the value of independent filmmakers like Jeffrey, it's essential that high-caliber efforts like "The Last Lullaby" find their theatrical niche.

Jeffrey is hoping to generate tons of community support by having you join his efforts. If you want to keep up on his touring exploits, send an email to register@thelastlullaby.com with "Register Me" in the subject line.

Writes Jeffrey, "If 'Lullaby' is a success, it will bring some really positive attention to Shreveport-Bossier and open up the doors for other hometown filmmakers who want to make films here."

IF THEY SHOW THE FILM IN SHREVEPORT, WHAT PLANS ARE BEING MADE TO PREVENT THE POLICE FROM ARRESTING THOSE WHO ARE OUTSIDE THE THEATRE HUGGING? CHIEF WHITEHORN MAY THINK THEY ARE TRYING TO AVOID ARREST AND HE MAY DEFEND POLICE OVERREACTING BY MACING AND TASERING INNOCENT PEOPLE AGAIN. SHREVEPORT CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER BLACKEYE DUE TO MAYOR GLOVER AND CHEIF WHITEHORN. WE HAVE ALREADY LOST SEVERAL MOVIES THAT WERE SET TO COME HERE BECAUSE OF THE BROLIN MISTREATMENT AND THE MAYOR'S GLOVERGATE COVERUP. I JUST HOPE THEY DON'T RUIN IT FOR JEFFERY GOODMAN!!!!!!!

On a positive note....Jeffrey has worked hard to get his film financed, shot and promoted throughout the world on the tougher than tough film festival circuit...Our fair city can, if it wants to, support one of her own in a field that can be less than kind to even the greats....what is done is done with Mr. Brolin and all of that...let it go...
Congratulations to Jeffrey Goodman...now let's to our job and help with a very valid project and an excellent film...Last Lullaby...

Obviously, mr. ferguson doesn't care about the long term movie industry in Shreveport. The Brolin incident isn't over yet, as some may think. There is constant negative publicity about Shreveport due to the actions of the police, police chief, and Cedric Glover's coverup. Why were they even arrested??? Noone wants to give a legit reason. Movies are still pulling out of shreveport. We just lost Brolin's new movie that was going to come here. When you fail to address the true problems in our city, the problems keep coming back. The attitude of some shreveporters is to ignore the problem and hope it goes away.
Why not fix the problem, clean up shreveport (city hall), and start a long term movie industry here rather than run it away?

Dear Anonymous...Thank you for your concern of our livelihood...Being a working actor it is important that we understand all our problems. Violence is never an answer...whether it be police or actors...
However...giving the Mayor the credit of having a good mind and a sincere desire to help our city grow...(and Mr. Cedrick has both) Mayor Glover I am sure has addressed those parties who did wrong to whom ever...However...to continue to stir a stink...only brings back the stink....We learn...we move on...Nothing is forgotten...

Sorry but Mayor Glover IS the problem. I've heard what he says behind the scenes. Its obvious he sold out those in the film industry. He holds the actors to a higher standard than the police. He holds the actors to a higher standard than the local patrons at the other nearby clubs. and of course, Mayor Glover is never held to any standard for obvious reasons. We just lost at least $130million in film productions due at least partially to our mayor-police coverup. The perception of our great city is now dark and violent. If you go to work on an out of town movie, would you want to be mased or tasered or treated this way for asking police why they are arresting your friend???
Did Brolin do anything that was worth running off the film industry? People in Shreveport act much worse than the actors ever did and the police usually won't even come out their hiding place. Glover will cover up anything to save his hide. We can't have him in office for 2 more years or the film industry will be history. Cedric Glover has a lot of people fooled. Watch and see.
