Movie Review: 'The Last Lullaby'

The stakes are high for "The Last Lullaby," a locally produced film which opens today at the Louisiana Boardwalk's Regal Cinemas. The film itself is a solid piece of genre work, so it has that going for it. Eight of the 15 screenings have already sold out, so that's plus too.

"'The Last Lullaby' presents a view of vigilante violence that is unsettling but never corrupting, dark but ever illuminating," I wrote in a review republished in today's Preview section.

I'm thinking about popcorn for lunch today if I can steal a couple hours. If you get a chance, let us know what you think of the movie.

I'm waiting on the dvd. Why waste $7 to hear cell phones going off in a theatre? If the movie was quality, some distributor would have picked it up by now.

Oh good! Just what everyone needs - a cynical commenter!

Listen here, Mr. Anonymous (if that even is your real name)... Try to be less of a cliche' next time.

I can understand anyone's gripes about cell phones and bad theatre etiquette, but don't bash a movie you haven't even seen in the same breathe - especially when it's a movie that shines much needed light on local talent.

And although everyone may have gotten really comfortable with their DVD players and home theatres, movies are still meant to be seen in a theatre (with lots of people). They are a collective experience. A joke is a lot funnier when you hear everyone laughing - and a moment is a lot more momentous when you hear everyone gasp. I make my movies for the masses - not for the lone weirdo with his VCR on a friday night.

I saw the film at this morning's screening. I thought it was a very fine movie .... very good pacing and I thought all of the principals were terrific (and Sizemore and Alexander were excellent). I'm glad to see Regal is extending it for a few more days. I'm going to try to see it again.
