I've seen many of these films, and I'm surprised at the number of local actors/extras who are repeatedly used in almost every film. Shreveport needs some new casting directors to come to town to do it honestly. Without bias.
There are too many good local SAG actors who can't get an audition for these films because they are not in bed with the right people.
It appears that the local casting directors audition and refer only familiar faces and/or their local personal actor friends. As a consequence, the film producers and directors never get to see all the good local talent who want to audition but can't because the local casting directors want their friends or "favorites" to book the roles. The local productions should have more open auditions so they can evaluate the local talent without the bias of the local casting directors who often weed out very talented actors who are not in their "favorite" group. It is obvious to everyone that superior talent is not why the local casting directors favor the few local "actors" they repeatedly audition and refer.

I hope a film director or producer reads this and allows more OPEN AUDITIONS so they can see all the great talent the local casting directors are not allowing to audition. There are many talented local actors, both SAG and non union, that are not given an opportunity to audition and help the local film productions find the best actors for the role. We all know everyone can't audition, but those local actors who have experience should not be treated disrespectfully and ignored and overlooked. This looks bad on the local film industry and word has already gotten out around the U.S. about the local casting practices. If this "buddy casting" process continues, we all will lose.

most local actors in shreveport feel the way you do but they are afraid to say anything to the media for fear of retaliation and being taken out of the casting director's database.
everything you said is accurate. maybe we need more out-of-town casting agents who haven't established personal relationships with the local actors and agents.
I'm all for open auditions for everyone. Lets be fair.

I think a big part of the problem is that there are no "qualified" talent agencies in town. There are only two that pass for agencies here. People are having to get agents in New Orleans and Baton Rouge to get seen. As far as not everyone getting auditions, I hate to say it but it's that way in L.A. as well. If you are really good and stick with it, eventually you will get noticed. If you sit around and complain, it just smells of sour grapes.

I agree with the original post. They were pointing out a real problem, not complaining. Louisiana can't remain competitive in the film industry if professionalism is not demanded and respected. I'm from Louisiana and have received training in L.A. and have a great resume and still can't get an audition here. As a SAG actor, I've worked in 4 states and never had a problem booking roles before Shreveport became the hotspot. In L.A. it may be hard to get an audition because of the millions of actors, so that isn't a fair comparison. Also, I have seen some of the local extras that were auditioned locally and they were not actors with experience, but rather personal acquaintances of the casting directors. So the question remains, why can't the good SAG actors get an audition in Shreveport? I have the best agents in Louisiana working with me and they are puzzled as well. People are going to start leaving the area if this isn't cleaned up soon. Where is SAG and the local film commission?
